The Onkyo TX-8220 is a 2-channel stereo receiver where universal connectivity meets pure analog amplification, designed for music and film lovers seeking authentic hi-fi sound from a simple, focused two-channel system. With a discrete high-current amplifier, a built-in MM phono stage, Bluetooth wireless streaming, and a comprehensive set of digital and analog inputs, the TX-8220 sounds a whole lot better than its modest dimensions suggest.
The Onkyo TX-8220 stereo receiver is built around a discrete high-current amplifier rather than an integrated-circuit design, with hand-selected audio-grade components, a massive EI transformer, and customized capacitors that work together to deliver clean, dynamic power with low distortion. Onkyo's WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) ensures the amp drives your speakers accurately even under heavy loads, preserving musicality at every volume level.
The Onkyo TX-8220 is one of the few stereo receivers at its price to include a quality moving-magnet (MM) phono stage on board, so you can connect your turntable directly without needing a separate phono preamp. Whether you're rediscovering an old record collection or starting a new one, the TX-8220 gives vinyl a proper home in your hi-fi system.
Whatever audio is playing on your phone, tablet, or PC can be streamed to the Onkyo TX-8220 with built-in Bluetooth wireless technology. Once the receiver has paired with and remembered your device, it starts playback automatically whenever it detects an incoming Bluetooth audio stream. Up to eight devices can be paired for easy switching between household members.

Unlike amplifiers based on integrated-circuit boards, Onkyo's discrete amplifier design uses hand-selected audio-grade parts and heavy-duty output transistors. This approach controls running temperatures, lowers distortion, and increases the long-term reliability of the receiver, all while delivering more musical, dynamic sound than IC-based alternatives at the same price.
The Onkyo TX-8220 is equipped with optical and coaxial digital inputs feeding a 192 kHz / 24-bit PCM1754 DAC, ready for high-resolution audio from your TV, CD player, streamer, or PC. Route TV audio through the receiver and speakers for a major upgrade over your TV's built-in sound, or feed a network streamer for direct hi-res playback.
A built-in moving-magnet phono input lets you connect almost any turntable directly to the TX-8220 without a separate phono preamp. The phono stage is engineered to preserve the delicate signal from your cartridge, giving vinyl the clarity and warmth it deserves.
The TX-8220 features two sets of binding-post speaker terminals, allowing you to connect either a single pair of speakers (4–16 ohms) or two pairs of 8–16 ohm speakers. Run the same source through speakers in two rooms simultaneously, drive an indoor and outdoor pair, or easily switch between two pairs in the same listening space.
A dedicated mono subwoofer pre-out lets you add a powered subwoofer to your stereo system for deeper, fuller low-frequency extension, without sacrificing the purity of the main two-channel signal path. Ideal for smaller bookshelf speakers that benefit from low-end reinforcement.
The integrated FM/AM tuner features excellent selectivity and 40 station presets, providing reliable sound quality even in congested broadcast areas. A great companion for talk radio, sports, and local broadcasts alongside your streaming and physical-media listening.
Front-panel bass, treble, and balance controls let you optimize the tonal character of your music to your room, your speakers, and your taste. A Direct mode is also available to bypass the tone circuitry for the purest possible signal path when you want to hear the source exactly as it was recorded.
A front-panel LCD displays source input, station number, volume level, and menu selection, with three brightness levels for day or evening listening. An IR remote control is included for full operation from the listening seat, including direct source selection and tuner control.
