MartinLogan Foundation B2 Bookshelf Speaker (Satin White)
The Foundation B2 is the bigger of MartinLogan's two Motion Foundation bookshelf speakers, and it's the one to reach for when you want more scale and a fuller bottom end without stepping up to a floorstander. It carries the same thin-film tweeter technology that made MartinLogan famous, then pairs it with a larger mid-bass driver to fill a real living room rather than just a desk or a small study. Finished in clean Satin White, it brings serious hi-fi performance into the kind of bright, modern interiors where a black box would look out of place.
The Folded Motion Tweeter
At the top sits the Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter S. Rather than a conventional dome, it uses a pleated thin-film diaphragm that holds a large radiating area in a tiny, almost weightless panel. Because it barely needs to move to make sound, it starts and stops with a speed an ordinary tweeter can't match, and that's what gives MartinLogan speakers their famously open, airy treble. On the B2 it pulls fine detail out of vocals, cymbals and strings with a clarity that feels well beyond the price.
Even Coverage Across the Room
The tweeter is matched to a Folded Motion Waveguide that controls how those high frequencies radiate into the space. It widens the listening window so the detail holds together across a sofa rather than a single seat, and it tames the early reflections off walls and ceilings that otherwise blur the sound. The result is a presentation that stays clean and precise even in normal rooms that were never treated for acoustics.
A 6.5" Driver for Real Bass
The main difference between the B2 and its smaller sibling is the 6.5" aluminium mid-bass driver, built on a cast aluminium basket with a non-resonant sealed chamber and a one-piece cone. The extra cone area moves more air, so the B2 reaches down to 42Hz and delivers noticeably more weight and body than a typical compact bookshelf. The stiff aluminium cone keeps that bass tight and controlled rather than loose, and it still pairs well with a subwoofer when you want full cinema impact underneath it.
Easy to Drive, Easy to Live With
A sensitivity of 90dB and a recommended amplifier range of 15 to 100 watts mean the B2 sounds its best with everyday integrated amps and AV receivers, so there's no need for exotic electronics to get it singing. Connection is through solid five-way binding posts, and the cabinet is threaded for MartinLogan's STAND25 stands if you want a stable, properly positioned floor-standing mount. On a shelf, a sideboard or a pair of stands, it's a speaker that earns its place.
The Heart of a Growing System
Sold individually so you can build exactly the setup you want, the B2 works beautifully as a stereo pair for music, as the front pair of a MartinLogan home-cinema system, or as the speaker you start with and expand around over time. It is, true to the Foundation name, a confident base for a high-performance system.
