The Hisense C2 Ultra is the flagship of Hisense's C2 lifestyle projector range, and it's one of the more interesting all-in-one projectors to land in the last couple of years. It's compact enough to move between rooms, smart enough to use without an external streaming box, and capable enough to genuinely hold its own as a primary home cinema. It's also the world's first "Designed for Xbox" smart mini projector, with a 240Hz refresh rate and Auto Low Latency Mode aimed squarely at next-gen console gamers.
The whole thing sits on an integrated gimbal stand with 360 degrees of horizontal rotation and 135 degrees of vertical tilt, so you can point it pretty much wherever you want without needing extra brackets or wedges. Pair that with the new 1.67x optical zoom and you've got one of the most flexible setups in this category. The throw ratio of 0.9 to 1.5:1 means you can fill a 100-inch screen from just a few feet away, or scale all the way up to 300 inches if you've got the space.
At the core is Hisense's TriChroma triple-laser engine, with separate red, green and blue laser sources. The result is 3,000 ANSI lumens of brightness, an enormous colour gamut (Hisense claims 110% BT.2020), and a 25,000-hour lifespan. In practice the colour reproduction is one of the best things about the projector, with vivid, saturated images that hold up well even in rooms with some ambient light. Reviewers have consistently called out the colour accuracy as a standout, including full coverage of both Rec.709 and DCI-P3.
The image itself comes from a 0.47-inch DMD DLP chip with four-phase pixel shifting, producing a full 3840 x 2160 4K image on screen.
The C2 Ultra covers all the major HDR formats, which is rare at this price point. You get Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG, plus IMAX Enhanced certification. There's also dynamic tone mapping to keep highlights and shadow detail in check on a scene-by-scene basis. Whether you're watching native 4K Blu-ray, streaming Dolby Vision content from Netflix or Apple TV, or just pushing standard HD through it, the picture has real punch to it.
Beyond the Xbox certification, the C2 Ultra supports 4K at 60Hz and 1080p at up to 240Hz with Auto Low Latency Mode. There's a full HDMI 2.1 input with 48Gbps bandwidth, plus a second HDMI 2.0 port with eARC for sound. Input lag is low enough for proper twitch gaming, and the smooth motion handling makes a noticeable difference on fast-paced titles.
Most projectors have built-in speakers you'll want to ignore. The C2 Ultra is different. It's been tuned in partnership with JBL and packs a 2 x 10W stereo pair plus a 20W subwoofer built into the gimbal base. The result is room-filling sound with genuine low-end weight, supporting Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X. For casual viewing you genuinely don't need a separate sound system, which is rare. If you do want to add an AV receiver or soundbar, the eARC HDMI handles lossless surround output.
VIDAA OS is built in, with Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, YouTube and the rest already on board. There's Wi-Fi 6E for stable streaming, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2 and Miracast for casting, plus voice control via Alexa and VIDAA Voice. The setup is largely automatic too, with auto focus, auto keystone, smart screen adaptation and wall colour adjustment. An intelligent eye protection system dims the laser if anyone walks in front of it, which is a sensible touch in a household with kids or pets.
The Hisense C2 Ultra is one of those projectors that genuinely does it all. It's not going to beat a high-end JVC or Sony on black levels and contrast, but for the price, the combination of brightness, colour, gaming features, sound and sheer flexibility is hard to argue with.
