JVC DLA-NZ800BE 8K D-ILA Laser Home Cinema Projector (Black)

The JVC DLA-NZ800BE is one of the most talked-about home cinema projectors of recent years, and for good reason. It sits just below the flagship NZ900 in JVC's D-ILA range, and for many buyers it actually hits a sweeter spot in terms of value, contrast and overall image quality. It's a What Hi-Fi? Award winner, and reviewers have repeatedly singled it out as a genuine reference-grade performer.

Three of JVC's 3rd-generation 0.69-inch native 4K D-ILA devices sit at the heart of the projector, paired with the same BLU-Escent laser light source used in the NZ900. The result is 2,700 lumens of peak brightness, a native contrast ratio of 100,000:1, and effectively infinite dynamic contrast thanks to real-time laser dimming. Black levels are exceptional, and there's a depth and richness to the image that's hard to walk away from once you've seen it.

8K projection via Gen 2 e-shiftX

The NZ800BE uses JVC's Gen 2 8K/e-shiftX technology with a new 8K scaling engine, producing a true 8,192 x 4,320 pixel image through 4-way multi-axis pixel shifting. Whether you're feeding it 4K Blu-ray, native 8K content, or upscaling from a Full HD source, the picture has noticeably sharper fine detail than the older NZ8 it replaces. JVC's Multiple Pixel Control (MPC) processing also adds a Smoother function that cleans up compression artefacts without softening the image.

HDR that adapts in real time

HDR support covers HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, so you're sorted for streaming, disc and broadcast. Gen 2 Frame Adapt HDR analyses incoming content frame-by-frame or scene-by-scene and applies tone mapping on the fly, while the Theater Optimizer factors in your screen size, gain and throw distance for properly calibrated output. Add in Deep Black Tone Control and DML metadata handling, and HDR content genuinely looks the way it was meant to look.

Built for gaming as well as movies

The NZ800BE was one of the first home cinema projectors to support 8K 60p and 4K 120p inputs over HDMI 2.1. Combined with the dedicated Low Latency Mode, that makes it a properly capable gaming projector too, with smooth high-frame-rate response on a screen most people would only dream of gaming on.

17-element all-glass lens

The lens is a 17-element, 15-group all-glass design in an aluminium barrel, with motorised 2x zoom, focus and lens shift. You get ±80% vertical shift and ±34% horizontal shift, which gives plenty of placement flexibility for ceiling-mounts, shelves or coffee-table setups. Image sharpness holds up well into the corners, which isn't always the case at this resolution.

Installation and calibration

The NZ800BE is ISF C3 certified, supports auto-calibration via an optical sensor, and includes Filmmaker Mode for accurate playback straight out of the box. Eight installation modes let you store different setups for different sources or screen configurations, and there's full support for anamorphic lenses if you're running a scope screen.
